Located in County Kerry, at 1,039m, it is the highest peak in Ireland. We have made the ascent through the southern part of Hag's Glen, through the steep and well-known “Devil's Ladder” (devil's stairway) a narrow cut with abundant stones and that in wet weather becomes a dangerous place as evidenced by the numerous plates who remember the accidents that occurred in this area.
Although it is not a very complicated peak, you have to choose a clear day and in which the humidity is not excessive in the area if we are going to do it in this area.
It is an area where the weather varies abruptly and in a short time and therefore we must take extreme precautions that must be taken into account in any mountain ascent. At the top, and due to its location, the temperature, even in summer, can be extremely low since this top is hit by numerous currents.
Starting from the Cronin's Yard car park, we will take the path that follows the course of the River Gaddagh until we reach the lakes "Lough Gouragh" and "Loug Callee", which with their crystal clear and cold waters guard the base of this mythical peak. From here the path leads us into the "Devil's Stairs" where caution must be our concern to reach an area where the inclination becomes less and from where we can see our objective in the distance. From this point, a less pronounced path will gradually bring us closer to the great iron cross that indicates the end of our ascent.
