Itinerary description
Not the most efficient way to go from ai giannis to anopoli. :p
Challenging 3 days on lefka ori.
On the first day we hiked through the old trail from ai giannis to potamos through the dounavi and zarani seasonal sources and we climbed avlimanakou summit and vorino summit taking in the spectacular view of samaria gorge, lefka ori range and the Libyan sea. We then moved north on the summit ridge till the koumos seasonal alpine lake. On the second day we climbed tzelias peak, kefala peak and we hiked to katsiveli sos refuge where we resided for the night after our ascent to kanavonero source at 2200m and svourichti peak. As we had anticipated the weather became turbulent with strong winds and snow storm. On the third day the plan was to approach anopoli via pachnes peak, trohari peak, horafa peak but due to persisting weather conditions we decided to take the trail to anopoli, climbed chorafa peak and then descended the anopoli gorge.
Note that in lefka ori the water sources are limited so always have enough water with you! (we were melting snow)
Please if you are going to spend a night at sos refuge please ensure that you clean up after yourself, take your personal rubbish with you and leave the refuge as you found it, hopefully clean.
