Itinerary description
The road leading to the park gate from Gelan town is very good gravel and it goes up slowly to the foothill of Yere. From the entrance to the viewpoint, the off-road is very steep and slippery due to rain and too much gravel - which makes it difficult to cycle (sometimes slipper to walk too) so we had to push most of the uphill. But we really enjoyed the lush green forest, the birds' sound and the breathtaking view of the landscape, lakes and the bishoft (Debrezit) twon from amora gedel.
Make sure to pre-arrange your visit at least a day before (call or ask the Oromia Forest and wildlife enterprise or visit Oromia) because it is not possible to get access and mut to go inside with at least one park ranger.
Moreover, make sure to bring extra drinking water, energy snacks, sweets or fruit if you plan to cycle starting from Gelan. It is very recommended to go with a proper mountain bike (hardtail with front suspension or higher) have a repair kit and if possible with first aid kit.
It is not only going up very tough but going down is also equally challenging and requires experience as some sections are very hard stones, slippery and have potholes so be cautious!
Not recommended for a solo ride.
