Itinerary description

I followed this trail which was written up in E-MTB Magazine as "Trail-Jagt: Rund um den Hirschberg". by Berny Stoll.
I did this on an E-MTB. I was conservative with motor use and at the end had 3 stripes from 5 on the battery still.
Anyway the starting place is the Wildbad Kreuth Parkplatz. Costs €2.00 for 3 hours. Has very nice toilets, and Camping Busses can stay overnight for €5.00 here.
The trail starts following the river down towards Tegernsee, then turns off and heads into the mountains at Scharling.
It climbs very steeply about 500 vertical meters through the forest on gravel roads before reaching the highest point where the trail goes right into the forest. Unfortunately I did the trail after 2 days of heavy rain and the initial part of the trail was a combination of Mud, rocks and roots which were all very slippery. In dryer conditions they would be mostly rideable for a skilled rider. After a couple of hundred meters the trail was a bit flatter and rideable and nice and flowy.
Back on gravel roads for a fast blast back down to the valley. then a more gentle climb through the forest. Great for hot weather.
I stopped for a break at a very cute hut on the left of the road , the Luckengraben-Alm (I think). It is open in weekends in the summer. A bit further on is a larger Alm called the Holzerstube. Was a lot more going on there.. but I carried on. A nice small watterfall can be viewed after a couple of KM on the right. You have to take a left turn back up towards Hirschberg before a turn off onto a trail again. Initially I had to push my bike for 100 m or so before the trail became more rideable amd was quite fun if not a little rocky in places, heading back down to the valley. Back on gravel roads and cycle tracks then back up the river to the carpark.
A fun ride. I would rate it between Moderate for the gravel sections and very difficult for short sections where I pushed a bit. All short enough that it isn't a problem.
