I did something similar with datums for my region only to find that my track was ok and was in fact Google's satellite layer that was a little shifted. If you switch to the "Map" layer your track fits almost perfectly on the streets. I've realized that in mountain areas this 'gap' is even more obvious.

Thanks for that info, just had a look and it does fit really well. Phew! Thought the E-Trex H was having a bad day...
