The itinerary starts from the Piazza della Transalpina, one of the most important squares in Gorizia.
The public space takes its name from the Transalpine Railway, which has a station overlooking the square. The square is divided between the municipalities of Gorizia and Nova Gorica, following the Treaty of Paris.
Piazza della Transalpina, once differentiated for the Italian and Slovenian parts, is today also unified in its composition. Pedestrians can move freely along the square. Once Piazza del Transalpina of Gorizia was divided in two by a low wall man, to mark the border between the Italian and the Slovenian. At the moment of the entry of Slovenia into the European Community the wall was knocked down, and in its place there is a row of bricks, which indicate the border.
The itinerary takes place entirely in Slovenian territory. From the Piazza della Transalpina you reach the village of Salcano. After passing through the village, at the traffic light, continue straight uphill towards Lokve for a couple of kilometers, and after 5 km from the start at a hairpin bend you leave the asphalt road to enter a nice path of about 3 km. The path leads onto a dirt track where you turn right and after a few hundred meters at the crossroads you continue uphill towards Vodice that you reach after a couple of km (about 10 km from the start). From the war memorial you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Soča valley and the sanctuary of Montesanto (Sveta Gora).
The return takes place along a short singeltrack of medium difficulty (S1) and convenient carrareccie that lead to the village of Grgar. From this last village, on a tarmac road after a tear of 1 km uphill and another 4 km of descent, you reach the starting point again.
