Itinerary description
We tried to find a track all around the jebel inside the surroundings of Wadi Mujib Dam; so we spent the day going and looking for different alternatives… The track proposed goes nowhere, except if you don’t mind to walk down a wadi, carrying the bike on your shoulder on a goat’s path. We didn’t feel it, started to be dark night and the path was really scary: a slip and khalas...; but once down the wadi (300 mt?), there is a good dirty track and it is possible to connect the start point and do a circuit: then this track is 10 out of 10. If you want to try to close the circuit I believe its better to do the other way around so instead to walk down you go up: more tiring, but in my opinion safer.
This track was cleaned, removing all comings and goings to dead ends. To avoid to retrace our steps we climbed up with the bikes on our shoulders and we crossed a river... not very suitable. Click here to see the original track (in private mode) and check it out the extra km we did.
Avoid summer, the area is really a desert. One of the best things were the local tent settlements and a big area with rock inscriptions, Nabateans? looks like, but no idea.

Hola Carlos, qué tal por Chile? Oye, quiero hacer esta pero no sé exactamente como llegar al punto de partida con coche. Me puedes dar alguna indicación?
Por cierto, ayer estuve con Hakim y algunos amigos escalando en la zona de Ajloun, fue una buena experiencia, hacía más de 10 años de mi última vía...!!Hoy las manos no me respondían, jajaja. Bueno te mando un fuerte abrazo. Jav!er
Buenas, me alegro que hayas contactado con Hakim, fue y sigue siendo mi hermano jordano. Con él podrás descubrir un montón de sitios aparte que es una enciclopedia abierta (y una radio encendida). Todo bien por Chile, ahora de vacaciones de verano... a ver si recorremos un poco el país, pues de momento sólo conozco Iquique.
Esta ruta es muy bonita, pero no pudimos hacerla circular y eso que fuimos y vinimos por varias pistas; pero es posible tal y como intento contar en el texto: hay que cargarse la bici a hombros y bajar un terraplén. A ver si encuentro un hueco y te mando algunas fotos a tu email para que lo valores. Además de casualidad nos topamos con una zona llena de bonitos petroglifos, te enviaré el waypoint. El río que se cruza es un asentamiento de pastores que es digno de ver.
El acceso es fácil y no necesitas 4x4, tienes que ir a Madaba y coger la King´s Highway; la antigua "autopista" que va al sur. Después de Madaba, pasas por Dibhan y a los pocos kilómetros una bajada muy fuerte. Abajo se cruza el río Mujib y su presa artificial, al poco de cruzar la presa hay una pista a mano izquierda y tiras hasta que encuentres un sitio donde dejar el coche. Nosotros pudimos adelantarlo mucho más, pues la pista de asfalto continúa, pero la idea era ir a pedalear...
