Itinerary description
16 July 2016, British Heart Foundation mountain biking event.
Last stage of the South Downs Way, from Devil´s Dyke to Eastbourne, 35 miles/55 km with some 1200 meters of ascent.
The 35 mile route started at 11.30 am at Devil´s Dyke. Other riders had started a few hours earlier in Winchester, 65 miles away, for the 100 mile ride, the full South Downs Way in one day. Some of those riders had already passed the Devil´s Dyke checkpoint even before we got moving!
At two intermediate checkpoints, first at km 29 (near Southease rail station) and second at km 40 (near Alfriston) you were offered water, peanuts and cereal bars. Same thing at the start and at the end of the route. We appreciated it, as it was a very hot and sunny day, but some energy drinks and fresh fruits would have been even better.
The organisation of the event was absolutely perfect.
