Itinerary description

If you like to use your bike as a means to explore then this is a great route (and most of it is off-road). From Briton Ferry you follow the old canal tow-path up to Castell Nedd. Leave the canal at Tonnau and then you are likely to push your bike up the mountain to Moel y Hyrddod at just short of 500 m. It's followed by a steep and rough descent into Glyn Corrwg. From here it's an off road but metalled surface following an old railway to Aberafan through delightful scenery which only hints at it's former past. The last 10 km is down on the coast and then the main road (cycle track) back in to Briton Ferry. It's a surprisingly scenic ride in what once was a heavily industrialised part of the South Wales Valleys.
