Itinerary description
This is an easy / medium cross-country tour on Rhodes island, starting and ending at the gas station in Kalavarda village. It takes you through olive tree forests and wineyards to Salakos village and the Nymphi springs.
Equipment: hard-tail or full-suspension cross-country mountain bike.
Technical skills: medium. 90% are unpaved forest tracks which sometimes can be a bit washed-out and rocky. 10% are secondary (asphalt) roads.
Physical difficulty: easy to medium. There are some short climbs, but the tour skips the high peaks and stays below the Profitis Ilias massif.
Points of interest: beautiful views to the coast, to Profitis Ilias and to Ataviros mountain +++ olive tree forests and vineyards +++ Nymphi springs and cave near Salakos +++ abandoned 1970's Volkswagen bus in the forest +++ goats and some wildlife (keep our eyes open)
Things to bring: a helmet, 1.5 litres of water, a banana or energy bar
Note: Please help to avoid forest fires. Don't smoke in the forest. Take your garbage to the next basket / trash can.
