MTB Tour from Saint Arnaud, NZ taking in Porika Saddle, Matakitaki River and Murchison.
Distance Estimates
On paved road:
126km
Off-road (The kind only a MTB would manage but was sometimes unridable. From Matakitaki Station to Upper Matakitaki was about the slowest few km I've ever done on a bike!):

Rough gravel (a bit like riding in loose sand - slow going and MTBs only):
57km
Route:
Saint Arnaud - Lake Rotoroa over Porika Saddle. On to Matakitaki Station, crossing Matakitaki River and over rough terrain to Upper Matakitaki then over Maruia Saddle to State Highway 65 and the long descent to Murchison. Then on to Saint Arnaud on SH6 and SH63.
Camped:
Night 1: Across from Mataki Lodge at the start of the Mole Track.
Night 2: At Riverview Holiday Park in Murchison. Great spot by the Buller River and good shelter from the trees for people who've forgotten their tent poles.
