We climb Pikes Peak at 4300m by bike on the road, a good smack that hits you in the head. We did it the week before the Breck Epic to acclimatize.
We leave Manitou Springs from our hotel and there is a very bad first part after the town until Cascade that you have to go along the highway shoulder, there are no other options. It is allowed but I do not recommend it. It will be about 7km, if you have a better option to go by car to Cascade.
The Pikes Peak Highway begins here, a road that goes up to the peak itself.
Once at the top we have a drink and go down to 3600 along the road, where the elkabin trail begins. It is a trail past, with some specific area where you have to carry. Later, when it crosses the Barr trail, we take this one that goes down to Manitou Springs itself. Incredible, more than 2 hours going down a spectacular trail.
The Barr trail can be taken from the very top, but it was 4 degrees and the first part is not cyclable, they recommended that we do it as we did.
