Itinerary description

Start of this trail is near the church of St Marina, where you can park your car. If you want to avoid the short but steep climb at the end of the loop, you can park your car about 200 meters earlier where the road forks to Lazanias, just before the descend to the bridge.

The first part of the ride, up to the monastery of Macharias, is on a wide dirt road, with a fairly steady climb. 90% of the time the dirt road is smooth, with occasional spots with some gravel and rocks. The return is via the Politico - Macharias nature trail, which is ALMOST a single track.

It is quite nice ride in the canyon, especially in the winter months when the stream is full of water. It is not a difficult ride - I tagged it as moderate just because occasionally there are spots when an inexperienced rider will have to get off the bike and walk for about 30 meters, either because of the rocky road or it will be just a bit too steep. As the first part of the ride is a steady climb, those who are totally out of shape might be a bit challenged.

The return is ideal for the single track beginners, as it is really easy, 95% downhill and requires minimal technical skills. But it is beautiful, as it is right on the edge of a small canyon.

Feel free to message me if you want more details. Here is bit more about the area:

Turn down to the nature trail. Be aware that the sign for the nature trail (about 50 meters downhill) forking from the main dirt road is tiny and easy to miss.

Really great ride - thank you for posting it. Your description is very accurate and it's a beautiful valley to visit.

I think you're right to classify it as moderate - while the trail isn't hard there are some steep cliffs off to the edge of the trail in places and you need to be reasonably confident on the bike (or push !) to be safe. It's not dangerous or hard, just not a place a real novice should be learning.

    Hello
I guide a group of 16 riders at the end of April 2017 to Cyprs and want to take them one day to this track.
They ride at a good level and want to do basic-level singles as well.
Is the route suitable for them?
Is there any water in the trail?
I saw there were 700 meters climbed !
    Thank you

Hey dudisel, sorry for late reply, just saw your post. If it is not too late - yes, I think this is a decent basic level single trail, not too challenging, and for those who are not confident enough, they can easily dismount the bike and walk for few meters.
There is no water in the trail - the water is at the bottom of the canyon, and there is a bridge over the water.

The initial climb is REALLY tough, especially if your fitness is not up to scratch. It's a basic up/down ride, as hard as the up is, the down is AMAZING. You have to be a little more experienced to handle larger stones at times, especially when braking can cause wheel lock and loss of control. And with the gorge on the one side, it can be a little "tense". Near the end of the path is a half meter drop, going into a tight corner, followed by a really steep uphill on a very narrow path, I would recommend getting off and walking this part....but then that's just my take. The end part is on road, with about 1-2km downhill, followed by an uphill from hell. But overall it is a great ride, stunning views, highly recommended and it will be seeing me again.

This is a fantastic route. The trail by the creek is fantastic and the scenery is beautiful. Thank you for a fantastic day. For those who have time, they can go to the monastery of Machairas, before returning from the single trail.

I really enjoyed riding this today; thanks for posting it. Couple of comments just for clarification ... the first part of the ride is on asphalt road that turns to a dirt road about a mile or so in. Once you get to the peak of the trail, the right turn to the single track is easy to miss and end up ~100 meters down the mountain on the dirt road before realizing it. The rest of the info is spot on and agree with the reviews above as well. Cheers

Excellent track. Trail was fun. Last uphill was indeed from hell. But enjoyed every piece of this route.
