Itinerary description
You start from the gondola lift station (park the car inside the organized parking area, it is well guarded with security guards)
You go up the road leading to Kyra pass. When the moment comes that the trail splits (at the 9th km of the trail), you take a left turn ! There is some tarmac road there, but no cars !! You go around the mountain peak, enter the "green" part of the mountain (in the beginning there is also green, then it is burned) and then you arrive at the refuge (Mbafi, you will see a parking space on the left, and a sign @ the 23rd km of the trail). The part of the road just before and a while after the refuge is open to cars, so pay attention !! After the refuge, you follow the tarmac road for some time and then (@ the 27th km, where you will see an old abandoned building) you turn right on a dirt track. The first part is a bit difficult (it's an abandoned jeep track, it might have some mud pools in the winter time) and then you join the track that you came from, turn left and go back down to where you started !
In total, it's 37km long and it's pretty symmetrical, the first half mostly uphill and the second mostly downhill. In total, maybe 800-1000 m vertical ascent...
In the refuge, they have good walnut-pie (καρυδοπιτα in Greek) !
