Cool pics! These ruins were primarily a jail house for prisoners that came from all over the country. The story tells that if someone was sentenced to be sent far away, this was one of the places he could be imprisoned. Then it became a place of quarantine for people with Hansen’s disease (leprosy). When the treatments of this kind of patients became more human, the leprosaria was abandoned to ruins. Some people claim it should be restored to preserve history.
