La Parenzana was an old narrow-gauge railway that connected the city of Trieste to Buje and Porec. Built by the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1902, it was the longest 760 mm narrow-gauge railway. Today the remains of the railway line are still visible and one of the most interesting tourist attractions is to travel the whole or part of the track by bike!
This itinerary covers the central part of the entire railway line on comfortable dirt roads, crossing perched towns, vineyards and olive groves. The tour starts from the village of Secovlje in Slovenia and crosses the Istrian hinterland along the old railway to Oprtalj, from where the turning point will take place, reaching the starting point on the asphalt road.
