Itinerary description

Bike trail in Southern Crete. First 19 km up to Sklavopoula are paved asphalt - from there it is a bumpy unpaved track (!note: some travel guides name this a paved road - no way!) down to Elafonisi.
Elafonisi itsself is a beautiful beach, yet it severly suffers from the glut of tourists hitting the spot every day.
For the way back you can take the boat to Paleochora, departing every day in high season at 5 pm if the sea permits (you may want to ask at Selino travel agency right at the port of Paleochora whether the boat can go the specific day).

Waypoints

Grammeno Beach

A few km West of Paleochora you will find this beautiful sandy beach - a nice alternative on windy or crowded days where Paleochora's West beach will be not as pleasant. Stayed there for a few hours.

View on Lefka Ori

In the very back you recognize the White Mountains (Lefka Ori) with some of the highest peaks (Gigilos, Volakias).

Tavern in Sklavopoula

A visit in this tavern is a must. First time I got here is 20 years ago - it has not changed except for a front window which makes it a brighter place now. The hosting Greek lady won't understand anything but Greek - but you will get everything you need.
