Itinerary description
We cycled the Twin Rivers Trail beginning in Lower Shotover. We turned right at the Arrow River Bridges trail, crossed the Edgar suspension bridge, crossed the historic Kawarau Bridge. We stopped to watch a couple of Bungy jumps and then moved on another 6 minutes for a wonderful lunch at the Gibbston Valley Winery (without the wine). We then returned to Lower Shotover by the same route.
This is listed as grade 2 and 3. Lots of challenging climbs especially the last climb up to where the Twin Rivers Trail meets the Arrow River Bridges Trail. Most of the other cyclists were on ebikes for good reason. We were on push bikes and it was a slog but a fantastic ride.
The scenery is wonderful throughout and lots of the Twin Rivers Trail wanders through pine forests up high and willow trees lining the path next to the shore down below providing lovely shade on a hot day.
