Itinerary description
This 17.7 km stretch is in good condition. Nonetheless, one needs to pay attention to the unmarked speed bumps at the beginning of the leg. Along the way the road passes through thick, shady woods, offering a shady respite to both cyclists and hikers.
This leg of the journey ends in the city of Santa Bárbara, built on the banks of Santa Bárbara brook in 1704. One of the oldest cities in Minas Gerais, Santa Bárbara reached its apogee during the era of gold. After the decline of the mines, the city became an important supply post with a daily traffic of 600 pack mules. The city boasts period churches like the Matriz de Santo Antônio, Igreja de Nossa Senhora das Mercês and the Igreja do Rosário, as well as veracious (verificar) beautiful and imposing colonial mansions. Santa Bárbara has a complete tourist infrastructure.
