Beautiful tour of the Slovenian Julian Alps, specifically the southern sector of the Triglav National Park, a spectacular territory located in northwestern Slovenia. Specifically, this itinerary passes around Lake Bohinj (or Bohinjsko), through quite friendly and bucolic terrain, between streams, waterfalls, forests, pastures of a penetrating green and beautiful rural villages typically Slovenian. We will cycle on well-trodden tracks, quiet secondary roads, easy paths and others that are not so easy, but without excessive difficulties. All in all, an excellent tour to get to know one of the most emblematic sectors of Slovenia's only national park, with Lake Bohinj, Savica Waterfall and Mostnica Gorges as the undisputed stars of this spectacular route.
We start from one of the car parks on the road that borders Lake Bohinj and head towards the spectacular and mighty Savica waterfall, probably the most famous in all of Slovenia. There we pay 3 € to visit the waterfall and leave the bike next to the box office (only allowed on foot) to walk along a fairly steep path (about 200 meters of elevation gain accumulated in just over a km) to reach the stunning Savica waterfall. Then we return to the same place, take the bikes and return to Lake Bohinj, but now by another track that will eventually become a path that borders the northern slope of this glacial lake, the largest in all of Slovenia. Arriving at the picturesque village of Stara Fuzina we turn off to go up a track to the Voje waterfall and then go down parallel to the ascent track, but now by a path that runs through the narrow gorges of the river Mostnica, excavated on the limestone of the Julian Alps. Then we go through Stara Fuzina again and end up lengthening the route a bit by taking a walk through the small and bucolic rural villages of the glacial valley of Bohinj.
Waypoints
Cascada Savica
Refugi Restaurant
