Itinerary description
EMBT ride from Fossvellir 1, over the moor of Smjörvatnsheiði is a very old mountain road that served as a line road (línuvegur) and served the first phone line that was set up in Iceland around 1906. There are still phone line poles there, an echo from the past, that are along the trail.
There are three river crossings, easy ones, two of them over the same river.
It is probably easier to do this path from south to north but both are absolutely doable.
Please note that the beginning of the path goes through the farm and there is a closed gate there, easy to go through but maybe it would be the polite way to travel this to phone ahead and ask for permission to cross.
