Dlouhe strane - one of the seven wonders of the Czech Republic
A trip to the Dlouhé stráně mountain (1,350 m above sea level) and the Dlouhe strane reservoir, located in the Jeseník mountain range in the Eastern Sudetes, in northeastern Bohemia. This place is one of the Seven Wonders of the Czech Republic (it won first place in 2005!).

Dlouhe strane is also in the top ten most visited tourist attractions by Czechs. In a straight line, approx. 5 km from Pradziad - the highest peak in the Jeseníky region.

Dlouhé stráně - how the reservoir was created
The water of the reservoir feeds a pumped storage power plant, the plans and construction of which began in 1978. The summit of the Dlouhé stráně mountain previously had a convex shape. After planning, the plant's upper reservoir was constructed by cutting the top off, and the excavated material was used to widen the base and build its banks.

How to get to the top of Dlouhe strane
We can get to the top of Dlouhé stráně in several ways:

On foot, the easiest way from the village of Kouty nad Dnesnou (where we can park our car) along the red trail. Then it is also worth taking a little detour at the height of the Medvedi hora hill and following the green trail to the Rysí skála viewpoint, from where there is a beautiful panorama of the Praděd ridge and our Dlouhé stráně.
We can also use the cable car, which will take us to the intermediate peak of Medveda hora in less than seven minutes, from there we will walk to our destination on an asphalt road in about an hour. The cable car is open throughout the year from May to October and it is possible to transport a mountain bike. From the final station, several advanced single tracks lead down the hill for the seasoned full suspension rider.
There are also bike paths for MTB and cross bikes. There are a lot of them in the mountain area (as well as the entire Jeseníky range). We have chosen and for experienced cyclists we offer a 35 km route from Loučná nad Desnou. The climbs are quite demanding and take up about 49 percent. the route, but the hardships will be compensated by the awareness of climbing the mountain, the picturesque nature of the path and exciting descents.
Ski buses run from the village of Kouty nad Dnesnou - also in the summer and autumn season. However, we have not used this option yet, so you need to ask for details on the spot.


Gastronomy around Dlouhé stráně
During the route, we encounter at least two places where we can take advantage of the local gastronomy. One of them is located right next to the terminus of the lift on the Medvedi hora hill and at the destination of the trip, right on the shore of the reservoir.
In Koutach nad Dnesnou, as befits a real ski resort, there are several larger restaurants open all year round.

The entrance to the top and the reservoir is free. There is also a car park in Loučná nad Desnou. Paid parking (CZK 100) is located in Koutach nad Dnesnou.
