Itinerary description
Cycling - Conca del Pra' is a small flat basin at the beginning of the Pellice Valley and is about 3 Km (2 mi) in length lined on both sides by towering peaks. Those to the west mark the border with France.
Tallest peak at the beginning of the basin is Mt. Granero at 3170 m (10,400 ft).
Rifugio Willy Jervis is open year-round and is a friendly place for a full meal, or just a sandwich, and accommodation.
The basin is also home to a couple of summer seasonal dairy farms. We bought delicious cheese at Partia d'Amount farm (see waypoint) where they have one hundred heads of cow and forty of goat roaming in an idyllic place. Last chance for the season, as the herds are about to be conducted down to Bobbio Pellice in one week.
Paved road up to Villanova, then one-lane dirt/gravel in good general conditions. Such road is open to motor vehicles with a daily limit of 40 vehicles per day which need to buy a permit. Traffic after Villanova, if any, is then almost zero. We haven't encountered a single vehicle either on the way up or down.
Suggested parking spot in Bobbio. For those willing to reduce the climb, a few parking spots could be available near the hamlet of Eyssard, or at Villanova.
