Itinerary description
Cycling - Wharton State Forest is a protected area within the Pine Barrens region of New Jersey. Batsto Historic Village thrived as a cast iron foundry setting upon the mining of bog ore from the local lake and river. The site is freely accessible from dawn to dusk unless entered by vehicle for a fee. This track includes two waypoints for parking possibilities, one of which is free and certainly better for it's shaded under pinetrees.
Singletrack MTB trails start right off the north edge of the visitor center's parking lot. Select the OpenCycleMap to view the trails. I only took a small portion of one of these as my local bike has street tires and the sandy soil often proved too soft for them. It must be fun though with proper MTB tires. I then decided to take a paved road with zero traffic and make a loop to complete this short ride.
Beware of ticks - as I've been told - especially in the warm season.
