Itinerary description
One of the most enjoyable alpine climbs I have ever had the luck to ride.
It is a beast at almost 17 miles long, exposed to the weather and reaches 3,000 metres so the oxygen may be an issue for some.
The upper sections are really rough and almost unrideable in places. I have seen motor bikers fall over yet pro gravel bike riders pick fast lines? I rode in late September and in the middle of the week and I was alone for most of the climb. August and most summer weekends will be very busy and unenjoyable. I used a low geared full-sus xc mountain bike; yet those with patience and are happy to walk sections could reach the summit with a gravel bike or maybe a light tourer.
Google Hotel Sommelier and there is a huge free and safe car park. Checkout my website for an upcoming review.
As always take care in the mountains and enjoy.
