Itinerary description
A bicycle road trip starting from Ierapetra and going up along the sweat water lake (rather dry these days), to Kalamafka village and a bit later to the 2 seas observatory (circa 500 m heigth).
This gives a good sight of the montaneous surrounding area and shade is rare.
From the 2 seas viewpoint onwards, the descent is quick until the village of Prina and the ascent begins again up to the col before reaching Meseleroi. Then begins a long descent (circa 10km) staight up to Ierapetra which comes as a relief after 2 ascents.
Note that an alternative route (several alternatives in fact) exists but on dirt roads leading to a higher col near telecommunication towers before going down until Stavros village (near a large pit) . This is the alternative shown on the map. Note that a road bike is not suitable for that part.
