Cercedilla - Calzada Romana - Cotos - Cercedilla loop 20090718

Sierra Guadarrama from Cercedilla.

0,0km (at 1180m) - Start from Cercedilla train station (Cercanias) with asphalt road up to parking at Las Dehesas.

3,5km (at 1380m) - From the parking, dirt road starts (Calzada Romana) all the way up to Puerta de Fuenfria. The road is very good, wide and in good condition. Climb is steady and not very steep. This part of the trail is very popular among hikers and mtb bikers.

12,3km (at 1780m) - Puerta de Fuenfria. End of first big climb of the trail. After quick break and snack, trail continues with fast descent with roman road in direction to Segovia, still wide and nice dirt road.

15,7km (at 1650m) - Sharp right. Trail leaves roman road to take sharp right, still downhill. For a moment continues on dirt road that later becomes asphalt. This section goes through some amazing dense forest, full of shadow (actualy quite cold during descent).

20,9km (at 1350m) - Local road CL-601. Trail meets local road Segovia - Puerto de Navacerrada, CL-601, and starts the climb. First 500m with the local road and later left back to the forest and dirt roads.

24,1km (at 1530m) - Right to smaller path. Trail leaves bigger dirt road and turns right to smaller path. Very steep and demanding climb starts here. Some parts of the path, even in July, had lots of water and climb was even more difficult. Continues like this all the way to Cotos.

27,5km (at 1825m) - Cotos. Parking space and top train station of Cercanias. Short stop at the train station and flat section to Puerta de Nacacerrada with local road C-604.

34,9km (at 1850m) - Puerta de Navacerrada, the highest point of the ride. At big crossroads with CL/M-601, trail turns left and starts downhill. First kilometer with main local road (one small mistake) and then sharp right to train station. From the station, dirt road / path starts. This is fun downhill but be carefull and it has lots of loose rocks and techical sections.

42,5km (at 1280m) - Embalse de Navalmedio. Trail passes next to technical lake and wider dirt road starts from there, down to Cercedilla. Through the town back to train station.

46,8km (at 1180m) - Cercanias in Cercedilla. Finito :-D

Level difficult for the overall climb, but mainly for technical climb to Cotos and downhill from Puerta de Navacerrada. Great views, great trail with lots of nice shadow, specially in summer months.
