Ligando Cascais a Sintra e regressando pela Ribeira das Vinhas
Ciclovia, estrada secundária, ruas urbanas e trilhos

A opção foi a de circular no sentido dos ponteiros do relógio, isto é de Cascais seguir para Norte por poente e “descer” de Sintra por nascente.
Por uma questão prática de estacionamento o início dá-se na zona da Quinta da Bicuda onde se segue através de ciclovia pela localidade de Areia e até à Duna da Cresmina, por alturas da Praia do Guincho. Aí abandona-se a ciclovia para nascente onde, através de várias estradas secundárias e trilhos, se avança para nascente primeiro pela Charneca e Murches e depois para Norte em direção à magnífica Quinta do Pisão - https://ambiente.cascais.pt/pt/quinta-do-pisao que se cruza na direção Norte até se chegar à N9-1 que é cruzada para se alcançar a Barragem do Rio da Mula onde as verdadeiras dificuldades ascensionais começam até se chegar à N 247-3 no chamado “cruzamento dos Capuchos”.
Daí se prossegue pela estrada para nascente até ao cruzamento que conduz ao Palácio da Pena. É então tempo de descer a mítica rampa da Pena e os seus apertados cotovelos. Abandona-se então, à esquerda, para a SNT PR4 uma vereda descendente e vertiginosa que conduz diretamente ao Palácio de Seteais e daí tranquilamente até ao centro de Sintra e ao Palácio Nacional.
Após a “detente” é tempo de seguir ligando à estação ferroviária e daí subindo fortemente na direção Sul até se descer para S. Pedro de Penaferrim por um conjunto de ruas bem típicas.
Tempo de nova e dura ascensão da serra por estrada para depois de descer por trilho até à Penha Longa e de novo à estrada N9-1 que se percorre durante umas centenas de metros para poente e reentrar na Quinta do Pisão e descer a magnífica Ribeira das Vinhas - https://www.cascais.pt/noticia/o-trilho-da-ribeira-das-vinhas-esta-maior - até ao Mercado de Cascais e daí percorrendo a ciclovia junto ao mar e ligando à Quinta da Bicuda.

Connecting Cascais to Sintra and returning through Ribeira das Vinhas

Bicycle paths, secondary roads, urban streets and trails.

The option was to clockwise circulate, that is, from Cascais northwards taking the west way and “descend” from Sintra by the east way.
For practical reasons (parking), we start at the ​Quinta da Bicuda, where the bike path goes through the town of Areia and up to Duna da Cresmina, near Praia do Guincho. Leaving the cycle path eastward, where, through several secondary roads and tracks, it goes west first through Charneca and Murches and then northwards crossing the magnificent Quinta do Pisão - https://ambiente.cascais.pt/pt/ quinta-do-pisao until reaching the N9-1 which is crossed to the Rio da Mula Dam where the real climbing difficulties begin until the arrival on the N 247-3 at the Cross of Capuchos”.
From there, we continue along the road eastwards until the intersection that leads to the Pena Palace. It is then time to go down the mythical Pena ramp and its tight “elbows”. Leaving on the left, we took a descending and vertiginous trail that leads (SNT PR4) straight to the Palácio de Seteais and from there to the Sintra town center and the National Palace.
After the “detente”, it’s time to continue, first, connecting to the train station and from there ascending strongly southwards until descending to S. Pedro de Penaferrim through a set of very typical streets.
Time to a new and hard ascent of the mountain by road, then descending by trail to Penha Longa and again to the N9-1 road which is followed for a few hundred meters to the west, re-entering Quinta do Pisão and descending the magnificent Ribeira das Vineyards - https://www.cascais.pt/noticia/o-trilho-da-ribeira-das-vinhas-esta-maior to the Cascais Market and from there along the bike path by the sea and connecting to Quinta da Bicuda.
