Itinerary description
This bike ride sets off in Carcassonne, takes the canal tow path to Caux et Sauzens, then crosses to Lavalette using minor roads and farm tracks. From Lavalette it's back to Carcassonne on tarmac.
I set off near the Pont Vieux....free car parking... and rode through the town to the canal basin. Cross the canal and follow the road heading west for a short while before getting onto the canal tow path all the way to Caix et Sauzens.
Ride into the village then head off to Lavaette using farm tracks and minor roads.
From Lavalette it is back to Carcassonne mainly on quiet roads.
I found refreshments in Carcassonne and along the Canal du Midi, but nothing in either of the small villages, so stock up before you leave.
