Itinerary description
The track was designed with the main objective to explore further the are just behind Shitalakhya river. One of the proposed highlights was a large pond along with some interesting trails along canals and rural areas. The ride went well till the main bridge on Shitalakhya river (approx. 20 km) with some interesting single track along the way and an Indus temple that stands only because the tree growing around provides support. The portion after the bridge to the large pond is not the best we had, however is doable and perhaps one would cut off from the track those other two ponds that in fact were not of any interest. Once reached, instead, the large pond 400 x 160m approx.) offered a spectacular scenery; it even had a house on a island in the middle of the lake!
The way back was also very interesting as it went along canals and very beautiful rural areas. Crossing back the bridge on Shitalakhya river, should one looks for a shorter ride, he could straight go to Balu crossing point from where through the usual single track he would reach Madani avenue and then Dhaka. Should instead you would have additional Kms on your legs, then follow the track for a fast detour (99% asphalt) before crossing Balu and moving left to another (smaller this time but very bumpy) detour through the southern side. From there, again Madani road and Dhaka.
The track is for MTB lovers as many portions are unpaved 850% perhaps of the total lenght) but offers possibilities to visit a still nice area very close to Dhaka. In addition, you can go for full ride (68 km) or for the shorter version cutting the two detours (approx. 52).
