Itinerary description
something's not right in yesterday's MTB session. going to pulangbato we passed by the entrance of an unfinished subdivision. at the end of the subdivision is a steep downhill with a right angle turn. the exit connects to the main road of pulangbato. i approached this section in high speed and lost control when my rear wheel skid when i made the turn. i was thrown away, landed on my back and hitting the back of my head on the concrete ground. it was an act of carelessness. before standing up, i checked everything, looking for some dislocated joints or much worst a broken bones (simbako palayo!). i suffered no injuries or whatsoever. i felt no pain at all, except for a stained jersey. so we continued riding 'til we reached our destination which is Guba. there i checked my self thoroughly, checked my bike for any damage. when i checked my helmet in detail, i realized how serious the accident was. if i was not wearing a helmet, that crash could have killed me instantly. the impact was so massive that it cracked the back portion of my helmet. i know that this is not an ordinary helmet. i invested on this 4,500Php GIRO safety apparel and it was worth it. the helmet saved my life! i'm very thankful to God Almighty for letting me live today and die another day...
after having lunch in Guba, we continued climbing to Sirao where our turning point is located. before even reaching the starting line of the long, difficult, downhill trail, another accident happened. a colleague of mine had a nasty crash. he is an experienced DH biker. i don't know what really happened or what went wrong since i was riding ahead of the group. i made a quick u-turn when i heard the crash sound from behind. what caught my attention when i reached the crash site was blood. he got a dose of road rash, larger than the palm of my hand and some bruises on his arms and knees. thanks God Almighty again, his injuries were only minor. potentially he could have suffered a more serious injuries such as head, spine or internal damage. skin always comes last when evaluating an injured cyclist/motorist. with the help of some local spectators, we treated his wounds by cleaning it as thoroughly as possible with water. i removed all the debris embedded in his wounds by wiping with cotton. one elderly local told us to rub the wounds with "hagunoy leaf" (herbal medication) which we did actually. thereafter, he was able to continue riding down to Talambam and from there rode a taxi going home to lapu-lapu city.
the whole experience was emotionally disturbing. i was riding my bike towards home, still in a state of shock. finally when i arrived home, i feel so relieved. i'm grateful that i'm safe and sound again...
P.S. don't tell my mother & my girlfriend :)
