Itinerary description

My first GPS trail: MTB Roundtrip all around Agistri Island, Greece (Agkistri / Angistri / Αγκίστρι). Also suitable for hiking.

Well-trained mountain bikers can easily do this tour in less than 90 minutes, though I would recommend to take your time and enjoy the nature and the many beautiful sights.

The tour starts and ends at Alkyoni Restaurant, near Skala port. First, follow the paved road near the eastern coast. It provides some nice views over the Saronic Gulf and Aegina island, but then leads to one of the least attractive sites of the island (the local dump). At the dump, hold your breath and turn right. Follow the unpaved forest track north. After a steep climb, you will meet another track (track point 001). Turn left. At the next junction (track point 002), turn right and keep climbing up the hill. Ignore the next juctions (003 and 004), just move straight ahead. At track point 005, the forest track is forking up. Go left and enjoy about 1.7 km of downhill until you hit the road. Turn left to visit the picturesque village of Limenaria.

There is a small swimming spot east of Limearia with beautiful, clear water but not much space to rest. As an option, you can ride west and visit the small harbor and tiny island Aponisos. On your way back, don't cycle around the salty lake like I did (track points 007 and 008). The path only leads to a tiny bay which is full of garbage. What a shame, the spot itself is really beautiful (check the photo).

Back in Limenaria, follow the road which led you there in the first place. Shortly before the small chapel on the right hand side, turn left (track point 009) and follow the forest track. After a short climb, enjoy another 1.8 km of downhill which will end at Dragonera beach. If you take a swim, watch out for sea urchins! From Dragonera beach, take the paved road north to Milos (Megalochori). (If you haven't had lunch yet: Directly above Milos harbor is a restaurant which serves nice local food.) From Milos, take the coastal road back to Skala.
