Itinerary description
Do not attempt the last part of this trail without an all terrain bike, good personal fitness and ample riding experience. A scooter will not make it. There is another route from Konglor ending in Nakay Neua which is doable by scooter.
Crossed the mountain through Konglor Cave with bikes strapped down in a small boat. Massive cave, some sightseeing of limestone sculptures inside. Low water level, some minor rapids to be negotiated. One of our boats almost capsized in final rapid.
Unpaved roads after this through dramatic karst lanscapes and remote valleys. Extremely hot and dusty, with dried up rice paddies. Chose not to drive up to Nakay Neua, but to follow the remote paths indicated by Komoot straight towards Gnommalath.
Final section is very difficult driving. Crazy steep and technical riding over boulders both up and down. Do not attempt alone or in rainy season. We needed help from locals to push bikes up the steepest ascent. Almost gave up, but made it back to civilization with parched throats and spent energy.
