I've done this drive dozens of times. It really is a lovely drive, particularly the first 15 or so kms from Quy Nhon. The views are great. The stretch further south isn't quite as interesting.
It's a nice wide road without a lot of traffic. Most of the trucks and buses take Hwy 1 further inland.
I'd agree with you on that. If you ever go again stop at that seafood place I marked on the map. Pleasantly surprised by the amount of food for the price, usually a bunch or garbage food when I make random stops
