Ruta 50 (parcial). Puertos de San Isidro (1520 m) y Las Señales (1625 m)

Entre León y Asturias, la ruta más habitual es el puerto de Pajares por la N-630. No carece de interés, pero tiene poco que ver con las que cruzan los puertos de San Isidro y de Las Señales, a un tiro de piedra del de Tarna (1490 m), ya en la frontera entre el Principado y Castilla y León. Entre Boñar y la Puebla de Lillo hay 32 km deliciosos, dominados por el embalse del Porma. Las crestas calizas de la sierra de La Cuerna enmarcan el horizonte, y la sinuosa vía es tan ancha que permite ver la salida de las curvas antes de tomarlas

Si en Puebla de Lillo se prosigue viaje por la LE-332, la sierra de Corteguero y el pico de Torres (2100 m) se vuelven omnipresentes. El punto culminante del recorrido es el puerto de San Isidro, uno de los más bonitos de toda la cordillera

Desde las cotas más elevadas de este itinerario de alta montaña se domina una profundísima hendidura, de una portentosa belleza. Unido a la amabilidad con la que se entrega la carretera, hace que este tramo bien merezca la distinción a la excelencia motorista

Si se toma la LE-331 hacia el puerto de Tarna, entonces hay que cruzar el de Las Señales. Las condiciones de la calzada son peores, pero el entorno es encantador: el accidentado perfil de la sierra, cubierto de nieves casi perpetuas; los hermosos prados, donde campan a sus anchas los caballos, y una conmovedora atmósfera de soledad. Imprescindible

Mi opinión

A pesar de recorrer sólo el tramo desde Boñar hasta el puerto de Tarna y perderme, por tanto, toda la parte occidental de esta ruta, la recomiendo encarecidamente

Cuando viajé, el embalse del Porma estaba extraordinariamente vacío; me perdí, por tanto, ese encanto que tienen las grandes superficies de agua. El asfalto del puerto de Las Señales está muy estropeado pero es parte de su encanto. La soledad que menciona el autor es absoluta, sobre todo si conduces temprano

Venía de la costa gallega y su insufrible mezcla de poblaciones, semáforos, peatones y tráfico lento así que esta ruta significó congraciarme de nuevo con el asfalto

Between León and Asturias, the most common route is the Pajares pass on the N-630. It is not without interest, but it has little to do with those that cross the San Isidro and Las Señales passes, a stone's throw away from Tarna (1490 m), already on the border between the Principality and Castilla y León. Between Boñar and Puebla de Lillo there are 32 km of delicious scenery, dominated by the Porma reservoir. The limestone ridges of the Sierra de La Cuerna frame the horizon, and the winding road is so wide that you can see the exit of the curves before you take them

If in Puebla de Lillo we continue on the LE-332, the Corteguero mountain range and the peak of Torres (2100 m) become omnipresent. The culminating point of the route is the San Isidro pass, one of the most beautiful in the entire mountain range

From the highest peaks of this high mountain itinerary, a very deep cleft of portentous beauty can be seen. Combined with the kindness with which the road is delivered, makes this section well deserving of the distinction of motorist excellence

If you take the LE-331 towards the Tarna pass, then you have to cross the Las Señales pass. The road conditions are worse, but the environment is charming: the rugged profile of the mountains, covered with almost perpetual snow, the beautiful meadows, where horses roam freely, and a touching atmosphere of solitude. Not to be missed

My opinion

Although I only traveled the stretch from Boñar to the Tarna pass and therefore missed the entire western part of this route, I highly recommend it

When I traveled, the Porma reservoir was extraordinarily empty; I missed, therefore, that charm that large areas of water have. The asphalt of the port of Las Señales is very deteriorated but that is part of its charm. The solitude mentioned by the author is absolute, especially if you drive early in the morning

I was coming from the Galician coast and its insufferable mixture of towns, traffic lights, pedestrians and slow traffic, so this route meant to ingratiate myself again with the asphalt
