Ruta 27. Alto de Penouta (780 m) y la AS12

Una de las carreteras más atractivas de todo el norte de España, con varios kilómetros espectaculares, como el que bordea el embalse de Doiras

Cuando los apretados castañares lo permiten, las vistas sobre la tierra son soberbias. Se rueda en todo momento a media altura, dominando las profundas depresiones que encajonan los valles. El trayecto describe breves y suaves curvas junto a aldeas pintorescas de piedra y pizarra. Se cruza el alto de Penouta, cuya carretera, olvidada hace tiempo por Fomento, es más serpenteante si cabe. Muy bello recorrido

Mi opinión

La ruta desde Navia a Boal es una pasada de curvas suaves y paisajes verdes, asfalto fantástico y panorámicas de montes y campos maravillosas. Una conducción genial

En Boal he tomado la desviación al Alto de Penouta, que no es gran cosa a pesar de lo que dice el autor del libro. Tiene un parque eólico en la cima. Desde aquí descendemos hacia el embalse de Doiras y giramos a la izquierda para cruzar la presa y subir hasta el pueblo de Silvón para disfrutar de la panorámica tan verde y con tanta agua

El embalse de Doiras es muy alargado y se conduce muchos kilómetros hacia el sur, siempre por carreteras óptimas de asfalto y tráfico (es día laborable), disfrutando una barbaridad. En un momento que la carretera hace un quiebro hacia la izquierda, paramos en San Esteban, un pueblo que está como hace 50 años: con callejuelas estrechas y fuertes pendientes. El pueblo está colgado sobre el pantano y hay unas vistas impresionantes. Unos metros después del pueblo está el mirador de Los Buitres

One of the most attractive roads in the whole of northern Spain, with several spectacular kilometres, such as the one along the Doiras reservoir

When the tight chestnut groves allow it, the views over the land are superb. You ride at medium altitude at all times, overlooking the deep depressions that encase the valleys. The route follows short, gentle bends alongside picturesque stone and slate villages. It crosses the Penouta pass, whose road, long forgotten by Fomento, is even more winding if possible. A very beautiful route

My opinion

The route from Navia to Boal is a great ride with smooth curves and green landscapes, fantastic asphalt and wonderful panoramic views of mountains and fields. A great ride

In Boal I took the deviation to the Alto de Penouta, which is no big deal despite what the author of the book says. It has a wind farm at the top. From here we descend towards the Doiras reservoir and turn left to cross the dam and go up to the village of Silvón to enjoy the panoramic view, so green and with so much water

The Doiras reservoir is very long and we drive many kilometres to the south, always on good asphalt roads and traffic (it is a week day), enjoying it very much. At a point where the road bends to the left, we stop in San Esteban, a village that is just as it was 50 years ago: with narrow streets and steep slopes. The village is perched above the reservoir and the views are breathtaking. A few metres past the village is the viewpoint of Los Buitres
