Ruta 163. Sierra de Cameros (I)

Todo un clásico entre los motoristas riojanos. De hecho, varias señales indican que nos encontramos en una “ruta motera”, y hay que reconocer que reúne bastantes de los atractivos que buscan los amantes de las dos ruedas

El trecho que conecta la N-111 (la que une Soria y Logroño) con la población de Laguna de Cameros es de dimensiones raquíticas, está lleno de baches y presenta algunas revueltas de carácter. Todo un desafío

Las condiciones mejoran entre Laguna y Terroba, antes de emprender el apasionante sector del cañón del río Leza, desde cuyo mirador se domina el abismo que la carretera sobrevuela. Sector excepcional

Mi opinión

Coincido completamente con la descripción que de esta ruta hace el autor. La subida al cañón del río Leza hacia el Sur es maravillosa. Es una subida con un fantástico asfalto, con curvas amplias y no muy rápidas. Es espectacular como se va abriendo el valle. Hay tramos sucios con grava en las intersecciones con caminos laterales. El mirador es maravilloso, rocas gigantescas esculpidas por el río Leza 200 metros más abajo

Continuando hacia el Sur, desde el mirador del río Leza, afrontamos una bonita subida hasta el pueblo de Laguna de Cameros, buen asfalto , curvitas y carretera cómoda. El pueblo de Laguna de Cameros merece una parada

Sigue una atractiva subida al puerto de sancho Leza, que marca también la entrada al Parque Natural de sierra Cebollera. Zona de curvas, alguna muy cerrada, con asfalto muy bacheado y parcheado pero nada de tráfico. Se rueda entre pinares por una ruta muy motera

Aunque queda fuera de esta ruta 163, se puede continuar por la N-111 hacia el Oeste, hasta la desviación hacia Ortigosa de Cameros, para llegar al puerto de Peña Hincada. El puerto de Peña Hincada es un puerto aparentemente abandonado, con una carretera muy interesante en cuanto a curvas (algunas de ellas muy cerradas) y con algunos tramos muy bacheados. Se circula por dentro de un bosque. Camino desierto, una gozada en días de diario. Es para subirlo con calma porque no es fácil

El descenso desde Peña Hincada por la LR-232 es un infinito de curvas. Empieza en una zona muy abierta pero luego las curvas se van cerrando. Son unos cuantos kilómetros, hasta la intersección con la LR-113, de asfalto muy bacheado y que hay que hacer con sumo cuidado porque no es fácil. Si llega la hora de comer, hazlo en la Venta el Goyo

My opinion

I completely agree with the author's description of this route. The ascent to the canyon of the Leza river towards the south is wonderful. It is an ascent with a fantastic asphalt, with wide and not very fast curves. It is spectacular how the valley opens up. There are dirty stretches with gravel at the intersections with side roads. The viewpoint is wonderful, gigantic rocks sculpted by the river Leza 200 meters below

Continuing south, from the viewpoint of the river Leza, we face a nice climb to the village of Laguna de Cameros, good asphalt, curves and comfortable road. The village of Laguna de Cameros deserves a stop

It follows an attractive climb to the port of Sancho Leza, which also marks the entrance to the Natural Park of the Cebollera mountain range. Area of curves, some very closed, with very bumpy and patched asphalt but no traffic. It rolls between pine forests by a very motorcycle route

Although it is out of this route 163, you can continue by the N-111 towards the West, until the deviation towards Ortigosa de Cameros, to arrive at the pass of Peña Hincada. The Peña Hincada pass is an apparently abandoned pass, with a very interesting road in terms of curves (some of them very sharp) and with some very bumpy sections. It runs through a forest. Deserted road, a joy on a daily day. It is to be climbed with calm because it is not easy

The descent from Peña Hincada along the LR-232 is an infinity of curves. It starts in a very open area but then the curves get tighter and tighter. It is a few kilometers, until the intersection with the LR-113, of very bumpy asphalt and you have to be very careful because it is not easy. If it's time for lunch, do it at El Goyo inn
