Itinerary description

The only road in the Retezat National Park which can bring you in the middle of the Retezat Mountains, only 2 hours hike away from Lake Bucura, the largest glacier lake in Romania.
Road from Brazi to Barajul Apelor : concrete road, in bad shape and with a lot of falling rocks
Barajul Apelor - Poiana Pelegii: ask for the road conditions before entering this section. There is a ranger at the entrance of Retezat National Park which can tell you if the road is safe or not. Sometimes, after rains, some parts of the road can be deteriorated, flooded and muddy.
Overall I would rate this section as rather difficult, but can be done with any adventure-like motorcycle equipped with proper tires. The are a few tighter corners with rocks or gravel but nothing that a bike cannot handle.
You can camp at Poiana Pelegii, but you will need to leave your vehicle in the parking, then cross a small river to get to the actual camping location (5-10 mins away by foot).
