Itinerary description

Hue to Hội An via the coastal roads and Hai Van pass. This route avoids a big portion of Highway 1, and although the roads aren't as smooth they are much quieter and easier to navigate, plus the route is more scenic.

Waypoints

PictographReligious site Altitude -13 ft

An Bang

An Bang - aka City of Tombs, City of the Dead or City of Ghosts. This is an enormous cemetery made up of hundreds of tombs. All of them are massive and resplendent with coloured tiles, carvings, mosaics and pillars. An absolutely beautiful place very much 'off the beaten track'. Great place to stop on the Hue - Hoi An route and none of the tours go here that I know of.

PictographBeach Altitude -3 ft

Vinh Hien

Where Vinh Hien feeds into the sea is a small spit of beach which is very quiet. You can swim and watch the fishermen working in the river.

PictographMountain pass Altitude 1,493 ft

Hai Van Pass

Popularised by Top Gear, the Hai Van Pass (Ocean Cloud Pass) is a spectacular coastal mountain road which is amazing fun to drive over. Part of the route from Hue - Hoi An or vice versa which is great to do by motorbike.
