Loch Ness boat cruise
To the west of the Highlands, the lake with the largest volume of water in the entire United Kingdom awaits you: Loch Ness. Its majestic views will amaze you, but this famous loch holds an even more interesting mystery: the legend of Nessie, the Loch Ness monster.
The famous Loch Ness extends over 37 km through a geological cleft (Great Glen) that extends from Fort Augustus to practically the city of Inverness. This lake, like others with which it is connected, originated from an ancient glacier.
His fame reached practically the entire world during the 1930s thanks to the supposed appearances of a plesiosaur that may have survived to this day. The locals say that they sighted him on numerous occasions and even took pictures of him. Over time, the Loch Ness monster was named Nessie and it became one of Scotland's biggest claims.
But Loch Ness is much more than the famous monster: its banks have extraordinary flora and fauna and its historical heritage is not far behind either. There are several towns that are worth a visit, such as Dores to the north, Inverfarigaig to the south and Drumnadrochit to the west, among others. In them you can visit Urquhart Castle and even take an excursion through Loch Ness with the many companies that offer this service.
Nowadays, there are many companies that offer their services from various ports. Most from the northern city of Inverness. Since transport can start at the mouth of the River Ness, they will be slightly more expensive than journeys from the shore itself.
