Varanasi is a city in the Uttar Pradesh state in northern India, dating from the 11th century BC. C. It is considered the spiritual capital of India and attracts Hindu pilgrims who bathe in the sacred waters of the Ganges River and perform funeral rituals. Along the winding streets of the city, there are nearly 2,000 temples, including Kashi Vishwanath, the "Golden Temple", dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva.
