Maharaja Udai Singh should not like the town of Pichola very much when he decided to make a dam of bricks and flood this town to transform that into a lake, Lake Pichola (at least it gave it its name). Measuring 4 × 3 km, Lake Pichola is one of the emblems of the city of Udaipur, in India.
In the middle of the lake there are two small islands, the island of Jagniwas and the island of Jagmadir. The first is famous for having appeared in the James Bond films "Octopussy", which Udaipur shops have made good use of to sell all kinds of objects related to the film. It is occupied by a palace now transformed into a hotel that is accessed via boat.
To get to the shore of Lake Pichola you must access through one of the doors where there are some ghats used to wash clothes. From there you can see a large part of the lake, enlivened by the sound of battered clothing to clean it.
Right next to the gate to access the ghats we have the bridge that crosses the lake to take us to the less touristy part of Udaipur. From the bridge we have wonderful views of both the lake and the City Palace.
