Itinerary description

In spite of an overcast day, choppy water, a few sprinkles and a stiff wind from the southeast, we ventured out onto the lake in search of the mouth of Boxelder Creek. The depth at the mouth was barely a foot, but once inside the creek, the depth dropped to 3 feet. The grassy creek banks were a lovely surprise from the usual mud, there was no wind, nearly no current and visibility was 6 inches into the water. Tranquil & sublime!

Big Tree Archway

This was our turnaround point. The water had a stagnate green film beyond this spot, but the map shows the creek rambles on for another mile or so. We'll return in the spring.

1st Paddle Broke Off

My left paddle blade broke off to my utter surprise! Perhaps I had stuck it too many times into the mud?

2nd Paddle Broke Off

My right paddle blade broke off to my utter disappointment! Perhaps I had bought a cheap paddle? We were really paddling hard into the wind at this point. Guess it was too much for the "fiberglass" Ozark Trails paddle. Guess I exceeded it's yield limit with my big muscles. Fortunately my wife was within earshot, but she wasn't too happy to come to my rescue! Otherwise, I'd have drifted to shore, got out and walked a long way to my car to go buy another paddle.
