Itinerary description

14 people wishing they were not a home met at Beaver Park in 60 degree temps and a perfect grey sky. The 12 boats and 1 SUP launched at 6 pm with saint nick north winds between 10 and 12 mph . Enjoyable paddle with new people originally hailing from Calcasieu parish. Some river residents were disappointed they did not know we were coming until we left. The moisture did become visible a couple times as well as the headwinds, both infrequent though.

An article in the Advocate from 2013 titled "The original Pinhook Bridge was burned in a Civil War battle" mentions that the current bridge was constructed in 1981: "The current vertical lift bridge on Pinhook Road was built in 1981, and when open, allows larger vessels carrying commercial and industrial cargo to petrochemical and construction companies along the Vermilion to pass." Earlier Wooden Bridge: Burned: The older bridge was destroyed by fire during the Civil War battle of Pinhook Bridge on April 17, 1863. https://www.theadvocate.com/acadiana/200for200/the-original-pinhook-bridge-was-bruned-in-a-civil-war-battle/article_10b62b0e-beac-11ed-b999-8b40c0baa25a.html
