Itinerary description
North BVD I-10 landing on Shadow Bluff Dr to Cafe 20.3 on General Mouton.
First note is the vastly improved boat launch. The Bayou Vermillion Water District (BVD) recently performed a complete clean up of the accumulated river silt and vegetation that had made the boat landing ramp virtually unusable. A big thanks to the field operations crew and new leadership at BVD.
Paddlers started arriving around 4:30 with temps in the low 90's. 50 percent overcast with a slight breeze and very isolated rain made it pretty comfortable.
8 souls launched 7 vessels (1 brand new) around 6 pm. Sunset began at 7 pm followed by a rising moon which was waxing at 50%.
There is a type of floating grass that has grown and is quite healthy on the upper part of this leg. If anyone has more information I'm curious as to what it is. This difficultly doubles without a photo.
Arrived at the Cafe shortly after 10 pm. The floating landing zone condition was less than perfect as the pier was lodged against the bank at angle and it surface was wet. One by one we slowly disembarked and hauled our equipment up the bank on the fully functioning aluminum ramp walkway and upper landing.
The trip was very calm and chill overall. It appears that access and egress to the river are areas of focus and also improveable.
