Paddled 8.8 miles
All notes by Dennis Williams
Elgin AFB, access pass required
Turkey Creek (spring fed) access and most enjoyed creek in the AFB at 9.5 miles for the section we
will be paddling. From our campgrounds north of state road return to route 4 and turn east (left) and
follow to the intersection of Hwy 90 at stop light. Turn left and drive across the Yellow River Bridge
and immediately turn right at the light. That road is Hwy 4 continuing and is also Antioch Road. This
Hwy road bypasses Crestview and will go direct route to Hwy 85 after going under I-10. At Hwy 85
turn right and cross the Shoal River Bridge and you are now on Eglin AFB property. Continue South
and pass under toll road and continue to road 232 (dirt/sand road) and turn right. You can readily
recognize because it is immediately at the start of Y split of three lanes on highway 85. The Y split can
be seen from a distance, stay right lane. Once on the dirt and sand road 232 follow to road 233 off to
the right and is a large intersection. Continue to the bridge on Turkey creek, find a spot to unload and
be sure not to block both lanes for through traffic. After unloading, drivers return to main highway but
stay on 232 until all vehicles are together and I will then take the lead to the take out. Upon crossing
over to the left split to 85 south be very careful of traffic that is usually traveling at 70 mph. We will
travel on 85 through Niceville to T-intersection with Hwy 20 and follow around Boggy Bay to Stone
Quarry on the left of divided highway and make a U-turn back 100 yards to a small local park. Exit
road quickly and go to parking to get all vehicles off the road. The area is small and we will need to
double park to make room. The take out park is viewed across Boggy Bay dock and bath house.
Note to shuttle drivers, when returning on HWY 20 retracing be aware to not turn on 85 south and go to
next light to access 85 north return route. While on the Creek, go slow and don't crowd, leave room
between boats to maneuver.

Nice water hike
Hit the max waypoints!
Had to document, it was the Crème de la Crème of a series of distinct & diverse top level regional paddles.
No doubt
Is there a max?
Yep, 50
Hit it on one of Chicot paddle trail maintenance legs
That looks like a great paddle! FL has their act together on docks.
Well then I accidentally took 50 photos. Florida understands the significance of access.
