Itinerary description
Launched at KP Hole county park. Park fee is $6.54 per boat. Restrooms available. Ample parking, but I can see it filling up depending on time of year, time of week and time of day. This place has a drop off point, which we don't see too often. It was already busy as we arrived. Two pontoon boats filled with scuba divers and snorklers, with a steady stream of kayaks and SUPs. Kayak launch was a wooden ramp with plastic matting attached. Hectic launch for sure.
We paddled up stream to Rainbow Springs State Park. Water was crystal clear. *Note - No disposable containers are allowed on this section of the river.
When we got to Rainbow Springs State Park, we beached our boats to walk around. There is a self service pay station to pay your entry fees. Fee is either $2 or $3 per person. As you are at the park's kayak rental facility, crowding is a big issue.
On our way back to KP Hole we were in a head wind which was pretty stiff. Even though we were paddling with current, wind was stronger. We attempted to paddle up a cut, but it was too crowded. Shame as it was very scenic.
The more I paddled around this part of Florida, the more I realized that this is a heavily used section of waterways. Still, as we haven't paddled here before, it was worth the time and effort.
