Itinerary description
Seven and a half statute miles at 80° F. I'm getting too old for this stuff.... Just kidding. Great trip. Very high tide, so easy paddling. A slight breeze but otherwise calm. We ran into some manatees in Johnson Bay, sort of by surprise. They lurk just below the surface, waiting for some unsuspecting canoeist to pass over them and then splash water.
If you want to try this trail, pay close attention to going through the small mangrove islands. It's easy to make a wrong turn. We took Johnson Bay on the return trip.
As we approached the launch area just a little before 9 AM, we passed over 50 kayaks headed out in what looked like 4 or 5 tour groups- some single and some tandem boats. The cove becomes very small at high tide so it can get crowded.
