Itinerary description
Capri Paddlecraft Park is a Collier County-run facility with lots of parking (maybe room for 50 cars), restrooms, picnic shelters, sidewalks, and a protected, easy launch into a shallow bay. There's a $4.00 launch fee for paddlecraft payable by credit card at a machine. If you launch in the dark, bring a flashlight. The pay system is not customer-friendly.
The west end of the bay connects to a series of mangrove islands through many possible routes. This route heads west, then south through a series of channels and bays, and then north to loop east. It's a leisurely paddle if you don't get lost. (Don't get lost!)
This is an easily accessible area, and if you are not paying attention, it is easy to get disoriented without a GPS track or a laminated aerial. Keep track of tides, and you can follow currents.
We rated this trip as moderate because winding your way through the mangrove islands, even with a GPS, requires you to pay attention, and you'll have to pay attention to tides as well because some of the areas get very shallow. We saw many tour groups going out as we landed, and the parking lot was filling up.
