Itinerary description

Capri Paddlecraft Park is a Collier County-run facility with lots of parking (maybe room for 50 cars), restrooms, picnic shelters, sidewalks, and a protected, easy launch into a shallow bay. There's a $4.00 launch fee for paddlecraft payable by credit card at a machine (I wouldn't say I like machines).

The west end of the bay connects to a series of mangrove islands through many possible routes. This particular route heads west, then north through a series of channels and bays. It's an easy paddle if you don't get lost. (Don't get lost!) At the northern end of the northernmost lake, there's a large, occupied bald eagle's nest, but we didn't reach it because the lakes at the north end get very shallow at low tide (but they look really appealing), and today was a very, very low tide, and we're marsh paddlers, not mud paddlers. Be careful if it's an outgoing tide when you're ingoing.
